Jewels, Dreams and Metaphors

Confession:  I feel wordless in the face of images and emotions.

These jewels are no exception.  They tell stories but…. they tell stories on the slant. They prefer to talk without words and tug lightly on your gut, where you feel.  Words just don’t measure up, they are limited.

Yet, I try.  With a little bit of everything; words, colors, shapes, water and light.

The story emerges a little like a conjured spell in puffs of smoke and starry sparks or with a loud emphatic splat.

These are beautiful one-of-a-kind original watercolor painting necklaces. They sparkle, a luscious punch of style, like jewels but crafted with iridescent, gold, silver and vivid luxurious pigments. Practically, they are durably sealed to outlast Costa Rican heat and water (please don’t put them in the laundry though!). Ultimately, they are meaningful gifts that seal friendship, memories, love and self.

What I love most about these jewels; the Stories.  The Stories that ground us.  The Stories that remind us.  The Stories that make us feel human.  The Stories that connect us.  We are human and at heart, we are our Stories.

Pendants come with 18″ inch black satin adjustable necklaces.

This wave and sigh – a burst of love married to tears.  An undulating hope, coupled in despair.  A chaos portrait both dark and fair, emerges in the dancing light.

My Jungle (c) Marika Reinke
My Jungle (c) Marika Reinke  – SOLD

 My Jungle

My jungle is not green,
Nor any quiet color.
My jungle is not silent,
Because she squeaks and yawns unlike an ordered universe.
My jungle is not still,
Its movement flows in winds and rivers.
My jungle blooms, and swallows, sighs in heaves, it splatters and disconnects and re-puzzles.
She does not know she is a mystery.
She is my jungle.

The sea is a literary being. Its waves finger the sand with hieroglyphs and symbols leaving a puzzle of stories. We have slight moments to code-cipher that which we can’t know with any sense but the heart.

Riddles form and solve themselves in the magic on the edges. Life unfolds, the inanimate play. A place of connections, chaos and ever forming order.

People are like fingerprints and
Secret palm readings
Maps of restless wanderings

  1. Aw Laura! Thank you! I have small high quality watercolor brushes, the best watercolor and paper and a lot of patience (but not really a lot of patience). Sometimes I paint one dot and line or a little highlight and then I wait until it dries for the next layer. I think I’m done and I come back and paint another dot or layer and then I’m waiting again. I paint about 12 at a time on one watercolor board. Cause life is busy and crazy, what should take only one to three days if I had nothing else to do, takes about 3 weeks just to finish a painting (not including framing, sealing or writing about it) Usually, when I wait for it to dry I have to go pick up kids, or tutor someone or deal with life then I’m back the next day. Sometimes its just about painting one dot a day…..these little life lessons.
