Description
What was the inspiration for Journey?
Honestly, I had this painting with a butterfly on an orange background, that changed to white, pink, lavender and all kinds of crazy premutations. I didn’t like it. It sat around, unfinished, in pastel colors for a while. But every once in awhile someone would see it and say that they liked the painting. I didn’t. Not at first, but then I embraced it with blues and greens and it had what it needed.
What were its challenges?
I struggled to land on a palette that I liked for this. Sometimes I get a notion that I should paint like someone else, like soft pastels, but it doesn’t sit right with me. Staying true to a painting I would paint and not someone else was the biggest challenge.
What techniques did you use?
This painting uses a lot of texture and stamping. It is what gives it depth. I also used some irredescent colors, it’s very shiny. And some find high flow paints for the few details. Drips!
