What was the inspiration for Dreamcatcher? 

Sometimes I start talking to someone when I’m about to dream.  We process. She’s a cheerleader of sorts.  A being that’s scanning the energy around me and offering advice.  Someone colorful. Lovely. Playful. Kind. A dream of their own, but just for me.

 What were Dreamcatcher’s challenges? 

This is a paintover of a painting that never really clicked for me and that I stopped working on when I started writing. So when I came back to it, it was easier to just start over, because I couldn’t remember what I was trying to do with it. But it’s always a challenge and a fear to just mess up something that’s kind of working.  What if it gets worse? Of course, it got worse, and then she showed up. The other challenge is that I tend to resist my paintings when funny characters emerge from them.  So accepting the way the Dreamcatcher emerged from the paint was a letting go of my own resistance. It’s not always easy to do that.  BUT not every painting has to be serious. They can be fun too. Many people tell me this is their favorite painting from the collection.

What techniques did you use? 

I painted with high-vibration music in the background and danced to lift my spirits.  I poured and stamped paint on it to loosen up its structure. It was after a bit of letting go that she emerged.
